Next CPI Session: Photo management – How to save your photos from the digital flood

0

From a group picture on a hiking trail to a professional headshot, your photos encapsulate important moments in your life. But as a photo enthusiast, your catalogue may contain tens of thousands of images, scattered across multiple devices and locations.

Back up your photos

We all face the same challenges for organizing and archiving our photos in a safe and not overly complicated manner in the digital and social media era.

So what are you doing to preserve your photos, particularly your very best shots? Come to the next session and share with other members your current photo workflow and backup strategy. Are you satisfied with the solution you have come up with —if any— or are you looking for a better way?

No need to get technical. However, feel free to bring a short presentation. We will have a projector.

This session will be useful to gather best practices and leave us more time behind a camera rather than in front of a computer.

Date and Time – Thursday 15 February 6.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.

Place – Bocage Annex 2 – room 101 (first floor)

New activity in the photo club: Monthly photo assignment using Facebook

0
The saying ‘practice makes perfect’ is as valid for photography as any other activity. So we have decided to challenge you with a monthly photo assignment using Facebook.

The theme selected for this month (February) is puddles. It seems we have the perfect weather in Geneva for this theme at the moment.

We invite all of you to share photos about this theme and comment/like photos from other members. The photo with the most like will be the photo of the month displayed on our website.

To join the group, go to the public CPI Facebook page and click the Visit Group button.

Annual competition results : a particularly good batch !

0

The Club Photo International started the New Year in style on January 10th with the inauguration of its annual photo exhibition and prize-giving ceremony followed by a cocktail.
Sarah Jordan, Deputy Editor

The competition theme this year was “movement” and a maximum of three entries were accepted from members and non-members up to the deadline of 5 December 2017. One hundred and twenty-two entries were received from a total of 45 participants. Staff from 12 different UN entities and six missions took part.
The best photo submitted by each participant was numbered and entered anonymously into the competition, which, further to two disqualifications, resulted in 43 original photos being evaluated by the jury made up of Guy Mettan, Director of the Swiss Press Club, Catherine Fiankan-Bokonga, Vice-President of the Association of Accredited Correspondents at the United Nations (ACANU) and Sergio da Silva, founding member and outgoing President of the CPI.

1st prize – Desislava Panteva – Fantasia Fest in Morocco

The six best photos were announced at the ceremony as well as a special Jury prize-winner. All 43 competing photos are exhibited until 26 January on the third floor of the E-building and can be admired afterwards on the Club website.
This year’s photos were a particularly good batch with some very imaginative interpretations of the word “movement”. Prize-winners were a mixture of experienced Club members and complete newcomers. The same can be said of the equipment they used – from top-of-the-range to the simple smart phone.

2nd prize – Esteban Rodrigue-Martinez – Pájaros

Such is the vocation of the CPI – it’s a club for anyone who enjoys photography and wants to share and/or learn on the subject.

3rd prize – Emmenegger Georges – Battements d’ailes

4th prize – Mariangela Linoci – Upstream

For 2018, the CPI has a new President: Fabien Dumesnil and the first session of the year and its theme (one per month) will shortly be announced on the Club website. January is always a good moment for new resolutions/directions and with an annual subscription of just 50 CHF you can both improve your photographic skills and meet people who share your interest.

5th prize – Silvia Schwarte – Chestnut Flow

6th prize – Eric Duchateau – All together

Special Jury prize – Véronique Magnin – Cheveux au vent

Silvia Schwarte sharing her photo exhibit experience

0

Dear Club members,

Now that autumn has settled in and summer holidays and activities are over, let’s catch up for an after-work drinks & informal session and talk about our love for photography!

In particular, we have invited one of our members, Silvia Schwarte, to talk about her photo exhibit experience, from how to get engaged in your community for a photo exhibit to printing and finally exhibiting your photos. You will have the chance to chat with her personally about her experience and get some insights and tips. She recently had an exhibit in Lausanne (La Place Suisse des Arts) last month along with other photographers.

The session will take place on Wednesday, NOVEMBER 15 at 18:30 in Versoix, just by the Versoix Train Station (publicly accessible). Details on the venue to follow.

For logistic considerations, kindly RSVP by EOB Wednesday November 8, thank you very much.

We look forward to you joining us in this casual atmosphere and discussion!

Warm greetings

Your CPI committee

CPI Session – The summer is over!

0

The summer is over!

Yes indeed, for our photo club it’s also time to get back to work! To get this new season off to a good start, we invite you to a session on taking indoor photos on Wednesday 13 September at the Museum of the Swiss abroad, situated in the grounds of the Château de Penthes (Ch. de l’Impératrice 18, Pregny-Chambésy, www.penthes.ch – opposite the American Embassy – on-site parking available).

Chateau de Penthes – Geneva

We will meet at 5.45 p.m. for a few outdoor photos then visit the Museum and focus on indoor subjects.

And these are the challenges we will have to overcome: lighting, white balance, flash photography (pros and cons), reflections in glass show cases, length of exposure, etc…

Come with your camera, flash and tripod… We will bring some other useful accessories…

The Museum closes to the public at 5.30 p.m. so we will have the privilege of a private visit until about 7/7.30 p.m. We would like to express our gratitude to the management of the Museum for making this possible.

A contribution of 8 CHF is requested from each participant and should be paid to Georges before the visit.

We look forward to seeing you again!
