Rules for the 2017 Club Photo International Photo Competition

1. GENERAL RULES

1.1 Participation is free of charge.

1.2 The competition will close on December 5, 2017. Entries received after that date will not be considered.

1.3 The competition is open to staff members of the UN system in Geneva, staff of Permanent Missions to the UN, accredited NGOs and members of CPI.

2. REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSIONS

2.1 Professional photographers are excluded from the competition.

2.2 For the purposes of this competition, we define a professional photographer as someone who makes a living from selling their photographs or who works as a photographer for either profit or non-profit organizations.

2.3 Registration: Participants must register before submitting photos and will be asked to provide the following information: name of photographer, organization, email, file name and title for each photo (see 2.4). The registration form can be found here.

2.4 Number of photos: Participants can submit up to three photos.

2.5 Submissions: After registering, participants should submit their photos electronically to the CPI email (cpigeneva@gmail.com). To avoid exceeding the maximum size limit associated with most e-mail accounts, we recommend using the service WeTransfer at https://wetransfer.com. The service is free and does not require registration.

3. MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

3.1 Only digital photos will be accepted.

3.2 All photos must have a minimum pixels dimension of either a 1600 pixels width and/or 1200 pixels height (approximately 3 megapixels) in a standard portrait or landscape aspect ratio. To find the pixels dimensions of an image, Mac users can control-click on an image and select Get Info from the pop-up menu. For PC users, right-click on an image file, select Properties from the pop-up menu, then select the Summary tab and click on the Advanced button.

3.3 Photo files must be submitted in JPEG format.

3.4 All photos submitted must have been taken by the participant himself/herself.

3.5 Photos should neither violate the rights of a third party, nor contain offensive content.

3.6 Images must not be watermarked.

3.7 The organizers have the right to exclude photos if they do not conform to the above conditions.

4. JUDGING AND PRIZES

4.1 Judging will be conducted by the President of CPI and professional photographers or media professionals.

4.2 Photos in colour and black and white will be judged in the same category.

4.3 Judging will be anonymous.

4.4 The jury will select six winning photos among those submitted and rank them from first place to sixth place.

4.5 The jury will also make a selection of photographs from the submissions for an exhibition. (see 5).

4.6 The jury’s decisions are final.

4.7 The results of the competition will be announced on the CPI website and participants will be notified by email. The six winning photos will be displayed on the website, as well as the photos selected for the exhibition.

5. EXHIBITION

An exhibition will be held in the Palais des Nations in early 2018 and selected photos will be exhibited.

6. COPYRIGHT

The copyright of submitted and winning photos will be owned by the participating photographers. The winning photos will be released for the “non-exclusive” use of CPI. Such use will be restricted to promotion, publicity, news, informational education relating to CPI activities. Competition photographers will be identified as the authors of the photos to which they will retain the copyright.
