More than 150 photographs from over 50 participants were submitted to the Club Photo International for its 2011 Competition and the quality has been particularly high this year. We thank all participants for their willingness to share their beautiful work with us.

The photos were judged on their technique, creativity and relevance to the contest theme by a jury composed of Sergio Da Silva, president of the CPI, Kristian Skeie, teacher of photography at Webster University and Régis Colombo, president of the Swiss Professional Photographers Association.

This year, the first prize winner is Giovanni Valensisi’s photo “Bent with the Wind”.

The other five awarded photographs were from Vincent Fung, Ernesto Castro, Aisha Coke, Aziyade Poltier-Mutal and Jan Hoffmann.

Two special mentions were also awarded to Shubber Hamoudi and Hon Fai Ng.

Titulaire d’un Brevet de photographie Olivier Delhoume fut reporter pour la presse écrite et la télévision, présenta de nombreuses expositions en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. Il a publié neuf livres dont « Mises au Point, Paroles de photographes » et plusieurs autres sur le Japon. Il présente des émissions de télévision et écrit régulièrement dans le magazine Art Passions.

Beyond his day-to-day job as a communications officer in the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace, Antoine Tardy is a member of ‘Photographers for Hope’ (http://photographersforhope.org/), an international team of photographers who have been documenting the lives of the poor and disenfranchised, and the work of NGOs to improve their conditions.

Drawing from his personal experience (including a recent trip to Bangladesh with the ‘Photographers for Hope’ team on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the independence of the country), Antoine will engage with the CPI in a discussion about ways to approach social documentary photography and how photographs can make a difference.

This session will take place on Tuesday 17 January 2012 from 12:30-13:30  in Room S4 – S building between doors 2 and 4.

The next session of the CPI will take place on Tuesday, 29 November at 12:30 in Room S1 (Ground floor, between doors 2 and 4).

Luca Solari is a poetic photographer who is interested in black and white photography as well as in colour. His photographs highlight things that we pass everyday without noticing them. Luca brings inanimate objects to life with his camera.

Ernesto Castro will animate this session focusing on black and white pictures, playing with light effects and showing how to create contrasted images with black background.
He will demonstrate how to better convert color photographs into black & white and how to use layers and light effects. He will also explain in detail the various steps required to go from the original image to the finished result.

The next session of the CPI will take place on Tuesday, 1 November from 12:30 to 13:45 at the Palais des Nations, Room IV (door 6, 3rd floor, at the end of the corridor off the Delegates’ Lounge).
This session will be presented by Sergio da Silva. Using examples, Sergio will talk about the mistakes to avoid in nature photography; tips and tricks, the appropriate equipment and the best conditions to get good pictures, and how you can improve them afterwards.
